Canopy Discord Bot Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Canopy (“the bot”, “we”, “our”) collects and uses information when you use the service.
1. Information We Collect
Canopy collects minimal information required to function:
- Discord User & Server IDs:
Used to track points and associate them with specific communities. - Presence & Voice Activity Data:
Whether you are in a voice channel, or engaged in supported Discord Rich Presence activities (e.g., gaming, Spotify). - Community Statistics:
Points earned, leaderboards, and progress toward planting trees.
We do not collect or store:
- Direct messages (DMs).
- The actual content of voice calls.
- Sensitive personal information outside of Discord IDs and activity metadata.
2. How We Use Information
- To award points and update leaderboards.
- To calculate community progress toward goals (e.g., trees planted).
- To detect abuse or manipulation of the system.
- To improve bot functionality.
3. Data Storage & Retention
- Data may be stored temporarily in caches (e.g., Redis) for performance.
- Persistent data (e.g., leaderboards, point history) may be stored in databases (e.g., Firebase, PostgreSQL).
- Data is retained only as long as necessary to provide the service.
4. Sharing of Data
We do not sell or share personal data.
Data may be shared only when:
- Required by law.
- To enforce these Terms or prevent abuse.
- To fulfill real-world impact commitments (e.g., reporting total trees planted).
5. Your Rights
- You may request removal of your data by contacting us.
- Server administrators may remove Canopy from their server at any time, which halts all future data collection in that server.
6. Children’s Privacy
- Canopy is intended for users 13+, in compliance with Discord’s Terms of Service.
- We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
7. Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
We will post changes here and update the "Last updated" date.
